Loose leaf teas and tisanes are often much higher in quality because the leaves have not been as broken down to fit into a tea bag, therefore they retain much more of their nutritional value, smell and flavor.
Using loose leaf tisanes also gives the brewer control over the quantity of leaves they want to use, making it more or less concentrated to suit individual taste and flavor preferences.
Because loose leaf uses less packaging it is more environmentally friendly and unfortunately many tea bags are bleached or made from unhealthy materials.
We prefer the lifestyle of using loose leaves, for all the reasons listed above, as well as the simpler, slower, and more reflective pace it encourages.
There are many different ways to brew loose-leaf teas and tisanes. A few of the ways are tea balls that can be put directly into a mug to steep, small tea pots that have a variety of different built-in strainers, or gaiwans (Chinese for "bowl with a lid"). We encourage people to explore the plethora of different possibilities and try them out to see what works best for them.
